  • The increasing pursuit of internal corporate venturing efforts and their quick failure has raised the question on how to secure their success in the first place. Among the most prominent reasons of failure has been the poor evaluation quality of individual ventures. Therefore, this thesis investigates different evaluation systems used in twenty-one German companies. The results suggest that the design of an evaluation system depends on its objectives and individual venture characteristics. Additionally, the choices of each evaluation element (evaluation date, evaluation methodology, and evaluation body) interdepend. Through the understanding of their specific relationships, this thesis can help innovation managers to define the appropriate evaluation system and thus, to improve evaluation quality and ultimately secure the success of internal corporate venturing efforts.
