  • “Management by exception” is one of the oldest management principles that aim to make management more effective and efficient. This case study at Mercedes-Benz AG analyzes the complex business setting of project management for six different powertrain components of a motor vehicle and examines the adoption of the management by exception principle in project management. This research not only shows the many advantages of the adoption of this principle, but also makes the practical challenges clearer and suggests improvements for a smoother implementation to get maximum benefit from this principle.
